Hey There it’s James,
Look, I’ve been around this meat market for awhile and I continue to be astounded by the number of new “Get 1,000,000 Patients Overnight” programs I see popping up daily.
To add to that suck salad, there is a whole new crop of get-paid-while-you-sleep internet billionaire wanna-bees selling their $29 ebook that will tell you how to get tons of Facebook friends, but no real patients.
And there continues to be more and more people out there who prey on a dentists relative marketing ignorance to pay their bills.
That’s why I started DentalMarketingSucks.com.
About Dental Marketing Sucks:
This website is basically a collection of articles and thoughts on the state of the marketing industry as it applies to dental practices.
It’s not nice, it’s not polished, but it’s the honest truth, and someone had to say it.
So many suit-and-tie consultants out there will take your hand and get all touchy-feely when it comes to talking about your practice. They’ll sugar coat things in hopes that they can keep you paying their fees. They’ll give you the advice that gives you a bit of hope, but not too much that you’ll become successful enough to fire them.
In fact, most of these consultants used to work with me. I made them succesful enough to fire me. What’s wrong with that?
Anyway, you won’t find a lot of touchy-feely stuff here. If you’re looking for it, go somewhere else. Otherwise, if you are looking for the kick in the ass you or your practice may need, you may have found the right place.
Sure, some of the articles may be frustrating, and they may use colorful language, but I promise that they will all be motivational or educational… maybe even both. I may even throw in a picture of a bikini model or a cute puppy for fun. Who knows.
My whole purpose is to give you the insight needed to create a truly successful dental practice for yourself. Also, I want to give you the knowledge you need to know when you may be getting scammed by a one-time let’s see how much money I can get from this guy before he fires me consultant. Harsh words, I know, but there are a lot of them out there.
While I am at it, why don’t I answer one question you’re probably thinking… James, Is this some sort of crazy marketing angle?
My answer… Yes and No.
The Yes: I’ve been giving brutally honest advice to my dental clients for over 7 years. The Former US Marine in me won’t let me do it any other way. I haven’t presented this information to people before they become clients for fear of scaring them off, but now it’s what dentists need before they bad-market themselves permanently into suckville.
The No: There has got to be a better marketing angle than to say the entire industry you work within sucks. I mean if you wrote a book called “Never trust your dentist” would it be a good marketing angle?
But I couldn’t bite my lip any longer…
About James:
I know you may not know me, but I’m James Erickson, CEO of Erickson Marketing Communications/EMC Dental Marketing.
I’ve been helping dentists just like you build practices for almost a decade now. From large multi practice conglomerates to single dentist practices, I’ve worked with more than 3,000 dentists, generating referrals, finding new patients, and creating loyal fans.
Along the way, I’ve incorporated my marketing education, as well as my background as a former Marine, and my sports marketing experience into the types of strategies I offer to my clients.
(Oh yeah, I also started a restaurant once, PB&J’s. For a short time I specialized in everything peanut butter and jelly. Ask me about it sometime.)
But look, as a serial entrepreneur and business owner myself, I realize that marketing takes a back seat to many of the other tasks you handle…
I mean, you’re so darn busy hiring, firing, training, presenting cases, caring for your family, paying bills, sending out bills, and so on to focus on developing and creating a consistent and functional marketing program.
Nowadays, even learning about marketing takes a ton of time and money… I mean seriously $4000 for a 4 day course on how to use Twitter? I wrote a free course that takes about 90 minutes.
That’s why I created EMC Dental Marketing, to provide you with simple to manage, as-hands-free-as-possible, non-time sucking marketing programs to keep your practice running smoothly, while you focus on what’s most important… treating your patients with the high quality dentistry you provide.
It’s not all about dental newsletters, postcards, social media, or websites.
It’s about providing you with the most functional, consistent, and profitable programs and strategies to help you find patients that pay, stay, and refer their friends.
If you want, feel free to call me at 1-800-311-1390 to talk about your practice, or just the neighborhood scuttlebutt.
Semper Fi,
James Erickson
Former Marine
